Looking around the world today we can see that we are all glued to our phones and devices, whether scrolling through, Instagram, TikTok, or even mutual. It's like everyone is hanging out virtually.
As we dive into research articles, we see there are serious problems in the media today. To start, there's bias. It seems that everything we view tends to be one-sided, hence bias. A lot of news outlets today have explicit biases trying to convince the viewer to see things a certain way. For instance, Disney owns ABC and all of its news outlets, stories shared from ABC are going to have positive stories about Disney and their news would be catered to the political views of Disney.
But there is also implicit bias, which is when news and media changes or leaves out vital information because some stories could upset advertisers, losing money in the end. Media today is like looking through wrong prescription glasses, it's all blurry and can even hurt your head. Then we move on to something even worse, fake news. Some things we hear from news can give us new perspectives and opinions on things, then we find that the article we read was fake, what then? What do we believe?
All media is built upon money. The news isn't newsing for our sake, they news for money. Some stations are so desperate they are now doing something called "churnalism," basically copying and pasting stuff instead of doing proper reporting. Viewing the media today is hard. We don't know what's true, we don't know where it comes from, and we don't know why we are being shared this information.
I believe there is A New Hope. The more we talk about these major problems, the more people will start to know and understand. Together we can come up with solutions to help make this online world a better place.
