After analyzing my own media consumption over this past day has made it apparent that my day involves a substantial amount of media consumption through various platforms. My day began with me waking up and then resting in bed for about an hour, followed by a short time period spent on Instagram Reels from 9:57 am to 10:42 am. After showering and getting ready, I went to do homework. However, I took a short break on Instagram before actually starting my homework at 12:01 pm. Following homework, I headed to the skatepark, showing a shift from screen-based media to physical activity. I get home from the skatepark, shower, and get ready for bed. The day then ended with media engagement on YouTube, Instagram, and iMessage for about an hour and a half before falling asleep.

I decided to use YouTube and Instagram because these platforms offer a mix of entertainment and information. Reels provide me with short, engaging videos, and I may be drawn to visually stimulating content and updates from my own social media accounts. Then, personal messaging serves as a direct and immediate form of communication, I use this mostly for social interaction. Then, the skatepark represents a break from digital media, engaging in physical activity and socializing with my friends in a different environment.

My expectation for using this media is to catch up on news, trends, my interest, and connect with friends, and in the end gain nothing with only some short boost of dopamine. My fulfillment includes entertainment with reels catered toward me and staying informed and updated with my social circle. The brief Instagram break I took before my homework suggests a desire for distraction or relaxation, likely due to my adhd. It usually takes me quite a bit to actually start things I don’t want to do. I do this expecting a mental break, and in the end I just end up not wanting to do my assignments more and sometimes with me forgetting about the assignment completely and going on with my day. I go to the skatepark expecting to get some good physical activity, social interaction, and a break from life, school, and my screen based media. It's nice to have a refreshing break and some social engagement with friends. At the end of the day, I spend my time winding down with the media expecting relaxation, distraction, or simply enjoying content. I also spend my time at night texting friends and family.

In the end this media diary reveals a pattern of using social media as a part of my daily routines. Whether it be before or after activities, I seem to rely on the media as a distraction, break, and a short term escape from reality. Although this doesn't sound too good, I make sure to always stay active as on this day I went to the skatepark. I do this to have a balanced life, making sure to stay in shape. All in all this was very interesting, honestly I was expecting a lot more media use but in the end I am satisfied.
