In the fast-moving world of technology we live in, the way we create is constantly evolving. The latest and most exciting advance is the use of AI-generated content. Whether it be text, photos, videos, etc. It's interesting! Moving through this new landscape is engaging as we create and consume this synthetic media.
This new synthetic media is changing the traditional process of content creation. It is truly remarkable how AI has this ability to create 100% original content from scratch. Traditionally, creating a video requires a script, actors, area to create, actors, and a ton of other resources. Now with the click of a button content can be made instantly. This new form of content creation opens up endless possibilities of expression.
As a freshman in college, I am one of these generations that grew up surrounded by evolving technology and social media. My generation consumes and creates as a daily routine. With the new era of AI content, the barriers to entry are broken down. Anyone can create engaging, quality, and good content without the need for various resources. Anyone, regardless of age, can explore new forms of expression, whether through AI-generated movies, photographs, or writing.
Although most see these advancements as a good thing, it is also important to question their impact on society. One of the articles brings up the “uncanny valley,” in which minimal errors in reproduction are starting to be detected. As we move through these times, I believe it's important to be able to realize whether or not the content we encounter is real or generated by AI.
There are pros to this new content such as accessibility, new expression, speed at which content is produced, etc. Moving on to the cons, there is a high risk of misuse, false media being produced, and possible loss of trust in the media. I can see this in my day-to-day life as things are put out into the media and folks, I know don't bat an eye at it.
In the end, advancements will be made no matter what. The future is ours; the future is synthetic; our future is the journey into uncharted territory.
